Howard Cinnamon

A native of Long Island, Music Director Howard Cinnamon received a B.A. from the City College of CUNY, an M.A. from Queens College of CUNY, and a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan. He is currently Associate Professor of Music, Chairman and Coordinator of Music Theory in the Music Department at Hofstra University where he has directed the University Symphony Orchestra, the Summer Reading Orchestra and the University Chamber Orchestra. Dr Cinnamon was founding Conductor of the Long Beach Symphony, which he directed fro 1993 to 1996, and he is Music Director of the Island Senior Symphony, which he has led since 1992. As a scholar, he has published articles on Bach, Chopin, Liszt, and Schöenberg in a variety of music theory journals and has presented papers on Stravinsky, Liszt, and Schöenberg at national conferences of the Society for Music Theory and the American society of University Composers, as well as at meetings of several regional societies.
